INSTRUCTORS, JOHN BURRUTO AND TRACEY BROOKS: MA STATE POLICE AND NRA CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS
The purpose of the course is to ensure that each enrollee learns well the basic principles and skills of firearms safety. Enrollees will learn of the components of hand- guns, rifles, and shotguns. They will learn safe handling and management skills of both hand and long guns, such as muzzle and trigger discipline. They will learn safe gun cleaning procedures, and safe home storage and basic transportation rules and law. Enrollees will be introduced to the wide variety of ammunition and the critical match between the appropriate ammunition and guns.
The instructors will emphasize the habitual compliance with all firearms safety rules.
Enrollees will be provided with the NRA Firearms Safety Handbook and other materials, including advice regarding how to shop for a first handgun, and the LTC/FID application procedure. FYI: Demand for the Firearms Safety Classes is high. If interested, it would be prudent to quickly request an application form, and to return the form and fee ASAP, as applicants are enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis. Class enrollment may continue to be limited in size due to unlikely but possibly extended Covid-19 precautions
In the unlikely case of last minute class cancellation or postponement for inclement weather or any other reason, enrollees will be notified via email or phone call or both. For that purpose, enrollees are asked to keep email and phone access open on the evening of Sept. 16, and prior to 8 am on Sept. 17. If needed, subsequent arrangements will be communicated when established.
