FID/LTC Class (NRA Home Firearm Safety Course)

SATURDAY, September 20th, 2025, 9:00 AM TO 1:00 PM

INSTRUCTOR, TRACEY CROWNINGSHIELD IS A MA STATE POLICE AND NRA CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR, AND A US NAVY VETERAN.

The purpose of the course is to ensure that each enrollee learns well the basic principles and skills of firearms safety. They will learn of the components of handguns, rifles, and shotguns. They will learn to safely load and unload firearms, using “dummy” training ammunition. They will learn safe handling and management skills of both hand and long guns, such as muzzle and trigger discipline. They will learn safe gun cleaning procedures, and safe home storage and basic transportation rules and law. Enrollees will be introduced to the wide variety of ammunition and the critical match between the appropriate ammunition and firearms.

The instructor will emphasize the habitual compliance with all firearms safety rules.

Enrollees will be provided with the NRA Firearms Safety Handbook and other materials and will be given instructions for the LTC/FID application process. Enrollees who successfully complete the course will be awarded with the NRA Certificate of completion as well as the MA State Police Certificate that is required to apply for a MA Firearms License to Carry (LTC) or a Firearms Identification card (FID).
